Hello March! My first exhibition of the year starts later this month at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking. My year started with an escape to Prague for New Year’s Day, followed by another trip to Slovakia for Valentine’s Day. I was hoping to be inspired to paint. However, I found myself inspired only to travel more and uninspired by my art. I am surrounded by a collection of blank canvases. Luckily I have sufficient original art and prints to put together a collection for this month’s exhibition.
So yesterday I threw caution to the wind, set aside all the scrap collection of pieces based on landscapes and animals, all the abstract ideas I had been collecting, and I chalked out a figure – more precisely a bum! I have always been drawn to and fascinated by people yet hardly ever try figure painting. My art teacher at school many moons ago told me not to paint people unless I was good at it – and I never felt able to rise to his challenge. Until yesterday.
So this month I will be working on what inspires me now, and it seems lumps and bumps are on the menu 🙂
