For the last two weeks I had a display of art at The Horton in Epsom, with The Eclectics art group. A ten-day event, this is a yearly exhibition for the group, and I joined a selection of creative and accomplished artists.
Throughout the two weeks, visitors were able to browse and buy the art on display, and at the end of the exhibition I was contacted by a lovely person who had seen my work. My original artwork, Summer Ends, Autumn Approaches had caught their eye, and I am pleased to say it was delivered this week to its new home.
It is always a pleasure to meet the person buying my art, and even rewarding to see the art in its new home. I paint how I feel, with no real direction other than how my mood takes me, and for a piece to be finished it just has to feel right. If it doesn’t, I keep working until it does, or it gets painted over on a different day. Summer End felt right from the moment I started laying on the gold foils, and the final roll of varnish sealed in everything I wanted to be on the canvas.
It is always a bitter-sweet moment selling a piece of art. Happy for it to find a new home, and sad to see it go. But it does make room for more creativity, so I am looking forward to June, to see what colours will land on my palette.
