I don’t usually use a lot of mixed media, but as soon as I could get my hands on some new products I began to experiment with different mediums. The art clay is a great way to build depth and layer to a canvas, and I used quite a bit on Industrial Skies. Coupled with a lot of shiny acrylic paint, some real glass beads and lots of varnish – and this 100cm wide canvas started to look like a sheet of moulded metal.
It is amazing to feel my way along the canvas, and it is so tactile. Every time I go past I have to reach out and touch it. Many layers of varnish accommodate this daily invasion.
As an artist, I am always trying to find something new. It is probably why I have yet to settle on a style to call my own.
