Having been in lockdown for over eight weeks, I think it is safe to say that, for many of us, times have been strange. As an artist, the lack of stimulation has proven to be a stumbling block when it comes to being creative. We all wish we had more time on our hands, but restricted movements leave little room for creativity, especially if you take your inspiration from the world around you.
The lack of exhibitions and events has also meant a huge reduction in income for many artists. Luckily the #artsupportpledge highlighted this to a growing audience – and, as artists, we are able to showcase more artwork to a wider audience, with the pledge of re-investing some profits back into a struggling community.
The JUST A CARD campaign aims to encourage people to support, value and buy from artists, designers, independent shops and small businesses by reinforcing the message that all purchases, however small, even ‘just a card’ are so vital to their prosperity and survival.
Whilst many of us are stumbling through lockdown, and feeling stifled in our creativity, it is heartening to know that the creative community is there for us. Visitors and supporters can also see we have a great stock (as many artists do) of available art for ready to buy; as original works, prints, or just a card.
Personally, I have been experimenting with different art supplies and mediums and created ‘Lean on Me’ out of frustration and lockdown limits. My red hot head needs to rest against a cooler blue head of my partner, to calm my anxiety during this trying and unprecedented time.
