On returning to painting seven years ago, I felt that my style should be realistic, and if I didn’t paint exactly how my teacher taught at school then it wasn’t really painting. But having spent a few years now experimenting with realism alongside fantasy and impressionism, I can honestly say that my art reflects more of my emotions and how I am feeling, than that of something planned and curated to perfection.
Watching many artists and studying their styles has taught me more about myself than them. I do not plan out and rarely sketch an idea before the paint hits the canvas. At the end of the day, when everyone else starts to wind down for the night, I begin to prepare for an evening of colour. What colour depends on my day, and with that in mind I select a small palette of two, maybe three colours and begin to paint.
My latest collection includes mixed media, with moulding medium and foils which add a new dimension to the art. The colour profile is apparent, yet each painting reflects a new day, or the end of the last before a new set of colours escapes onto the canvas.
